my first reel! gold luster firing adds that touch my first reel! gold luster firing adds that touch of sparkle to a piece. it's an overglaze - so you apply it after glaze firing and fire again. the trick to doing it well is apply it with a clean brush - and not too little (else it becomes purplish when fired), dry it for a day, and fire it at cone 018 with good ventilation (all holes open, prop the door).

check out my youtube (link in bio) for a more detailed video!

this clay can be fired up to cone 10, but i've onl this clay can be fired up to cone 10, but i've only fired it to a hot cone 6, and it turned out lighter and 'looser' than a cone 10. liking this look.
i'm finally firing big donuts again 💜 happiness i'm finally firing big donuts again 💜 happiness is a piece that turns out just the way you want it to and this glaze combo has been tried and tested in different cycles, on different clays; it is stable and extremely predictable.

(i have a few others that did not turn out great. well, we live to throw another day.)

wanted to accentuate the rawness of the beautiful wanted to accentuate the rawness of the beautiful brown clay i've been working with and pleased with how the experimentation turned out! happy too that this is going to one of the biggest supporters of my works 😁
did these cups a while ago and i think my aestheti did these cups a while ago and i think my aesthetic has morphed since then.

looking at these baby colors conjured up some sort of existential crisis about the impending loss of freedom. had spent the past few years contemplating whether to have kids and thought i had prepared myself as much as i could mentally.

but as his due date draws closer, coupled with sleeplessness, nausea, acid reflux, indigestion, heart burn, fake contractions, painful kicks, pelvic pain, cramps and tiredness that have appeared out of nowhere in the last week, it has made me a lot less functioning. all along, i've found comfort in the reassurance that whatever it was, i was going to live my life as per normal as much as possible when i have this child. i am suddenly hit with the realisation that i've been extremely idealistic and somewhat self-delusional. the past few days are but a glimpse of the road ahead. hoping to see some light at the end of this tunnel.

this purple glaze has a mix of yellow, blue, pink this purple glaze has a mix of yellow, blue, pink undertones. i named it 'girl boss' cos

1) i like purple
2) we are complex, multi-faceted beings and i mean it in a positive way
3) purple is the color of passion, equality, justice and also the color of IWD
4) we are the drivers of our own lives (loosely quoting @oynhn)
been making katakuchi sake holders (like the one p been making katakuchi sake holders (like the one pictured here) mostly because tokkuri sake holders have narrow necks and it is hard to glaze the insides with brush glazes.

but now that i have found a way to glaze the insides (i dilute clear glazes into a consistency for pouring), i think i'm going to start making them!

tokkuri sake holders are better suited for holding warm sake than katakuchi holders due to lesser exposed surface area, hence better at keeping heat.
spring cleaning today, and then it's back to creat spring cleaning today, and then it's back to creating. trying to squeeze in as much as i can before i'm too round to do stuff 🤭

L-R: wedging & weighing, throwing & trimming, bisque firing, glazing, glaze firing. these are the 7 steps of making ceramics.

i've documented the whole process from start to end of creations in my little home studio - this is my favourite video to date because i'm sharing tips based on loads of practice and trial and error since starting pottery 1.5 years ago. lotsa blood, sweat and tears 🦾

link's in my bio if you are interested!

saw a new side of DC when it snowed this year. the saw a new side of DC when it snowed this year. the powder coat of white that ironically shed its rigid, austere image for a spell.

loved the air of excitement as both young and old took over the parks around the district, building snowmen, having snowball fights.
