The Ceramist

I am a typical Singaporean millennial who used to give many weekday nights/ weekends to my office job. I liked what I did, so I thought that was the only way to live my life.

I’m currently based in Washington D.C., and a housewife-by-circumstance. This season’s been transformative and eye-opening; I got to realign my priorities, and in the process, picked up pottery. I’ve always loved to create, but for the first time, I found something that intrigued and humbled me.

I spent weeks learning to centre and it was a huge bruise to my ego. But it intrigued me because I’m both a dreamer and a realist, and I love how pottery marries art and function so well – you could find ceramics in high-end auctions and art museums, yet they are a must in any humble home.

After many many hours of hogging the studio 4 times a week, I’ve learnt to centre, but clay still humbles me. Pottery has taught me many a life lesson as I troubleshoot asymmetrical trimmings, cracked pots, failed glazes.

The Brand

This brand (& its digital channels) were born from the urge to build a creative identity – one that brought together the circus of skillsets that I once underappreciated; I’ve always felt they made me the Jill of all trades, but master of none. So crazily and amazingly, this has also been a journey of self-acceptance and love through discovering the Maker’s footsteps in the greater timeline of my being. As I start to gain insight of His plans for me, the more I recognise and fully revel in my strengths.

I currently make and fire ceramics in my humble home studio. I hope to use them as an avenue to tell stories about the strength of the human spirit, to inspire with relatable snippets of the human condition, and to shine a spotlight on social issues.
